|Destination: ||Quirimbas Archipelago|
The amazing experience of barefoot luxury can be felt right here in the calm, cyclone free waters among the Quirimbas Archipelago. Vamizi offers the simple pleasure of being able to walk for miles along the wild stretch of deserted beach.
The beaches at Vamizi are without a doubt the best attractions, with the Private Villas loosely scattered along the sandy front. With the sea at times being absolutaly perfectly still, the silence is breathtakingly surreal.
When the island used to be know as Amisa, it had a Muslim population which helped produce a very fine fabric called Maluane cloth. The Portuguese traders were attracted by this and soon, the island was trading in indigo, ivory, timber, manna (an edible gum) and turtle shells. The turtle today is protected rather than exploited.
The wild African island experience is sought after by guests from all over the world and can find it here at Vamizi where the historic remnants from the Portugese traders can be found. The island’s most recent settlers have brought award-winning acclaim to the island as well as initiating community projects and a conservation initiative.
