When you have gone through the Border, there is a new toll road to Maputo. You can pay with meticais or with Rands. When you reach Maputo, drive until you reach the first robot, turn left, this is a double road. There is another tollgate on this road. Pay eith meticais. A couple of km after the tollgate, you wil get a slipway to the left, saying Xai-Xai. Turn left and keep on the road. This road will take you to Xai-Xai and to Inhambane.
The road is in a good condition up to a town called Chisanno. This is about 40 km from Xai-Xai and there are potholes. Drive carefully there.
The first big town after Xai-Xai is Quisico. There is a beautiful picnic spot with a view over the lake and the sea. Fuel is also available in this town.
The next big town is Inharime. There is a filling station about 1 km out of town on the left hand side. This is the last stop for unleaded fuel. Inhambane has not got unleaded petrol. You are now about 100 km from Inhambane.
From here it is about 60-70 km to a small village called Lindella. The road splits here. Straight you carry on to Maxixe and Beira. You must go right to Inhambane. Carry straight on with the road; go past the hospital and graveyard. Carry on until you get the harbor and jetty on the left. On the opposite side is a double road, you must turn right here. Carry on; this road goes past the BP service station. If you need to fill up, do it. Otherwise carry on until you get an elongated circle, go around it and go to the right. This is the road to Tofo and Barra. Carry on approximately 16 km until you get a bar on the right hand side, the bar is called Bar Babalaza. The road splits here to the right, the tar road goes to Tofo and the dirt road goes straight to Barra. It is about 8 km. When you reach the beach you turn left. On the left hand side is the estuary. Pass Palm Grove Lodge, Barra Lodge and Barra Reef. After Barra Reef you will get a sign that says Makolo Bay. Turn right up the incline, you have arrived!
