After the toll gate, watch for the sign MAPUTO & Xai Xai . Follow the Xai Xai / Maputo ramp off sign which leads you down to a robot, at that robot turn left onto the great north road where you will see the sign Xai Xai again, [the road all the holiday makers take] Set your trip meter to zero here.
There are a lot of road works everywhere so please be careful. Just keep going on that main road & do not turn off anywhere. From that first turning off the main road into the Xai Xai road we are about 28kms out of Maputo on the tar road.
You will go through a police check, be careful there are no sings to indicate this police presence, which is silly as it is permanent. When you have been on the open road a while & you eventually see some vendors on the left side of the road selling drums, masks etc. [ you will not have seen this before on this open road, & they are NOT big stands ] you are getting close.
Next land mark is a place called ?ROGERS?. You will see their small sign on the left [ white board with blue lettering ] look on the right & you will see Rogers resort, keep on the main road. Next to Rogers [on the right] you will see a plantation of smallish coconut trees & then tall thin undernourished wattle trees next to that - keep driving.
Next land mark is on the right again & is a chicken farm, there is a HUGE yellow chicken figurine on a long high pole [one has to look up to see it, so don?t miss it] keep driving.
After that you will see on your right [quite far back from the road with tall trees into the drive way] a very very BIG old disused ?once? painted green factory - now you are really close to our turning.
Next landmark is on the left, a very big billboard sign advertising VODACOM, the next even bigger billboard is our MARRACUENE LODGE sign.
At that sign [& I mean virtually at that sign] you will see a red dirt road to the RIGHT, they are ?attempting? to tar this road, so there are workings going on there [you will see the large yellow road working equipment on the right before the road ]. Turn into the red dirt road & follow the signs from there on. It is 4.5kms from the tar road to the lodge and it is well sign posted. Remember you require 4 x 4 from the end of the red dirt road.
