Casa Oito - Casa Ray Beach Lodge Pomene

Destination: Pomene

Casa Oito is an affordable eco-chalet with swift touring Kaskazi kayaks  just a short walk down to the beautiful estuary of Pomene. Making the most of the peaceful view, our comfortable rustic cottage stands in a quiet and wild environment located on Pomene's north bank..

This self catering chalet is well equipped and attractively appointed, using natural materials: reed walls with a grass-thatched roof, cement walls for the bathrooms and kitchen and a cement floor.  We use solar equipment with 12 Volt charging points for your small energy units and have a stand-by generator.  An inverter is also available.

Three bedrooms with double or single beds (under large mosquito nets) can accommodate six people.  Children are welcome. Toddlers may be too young as this is a malarial area.

Casa Oito has an interior bathroom with a shower, toilet and basin.  Bedding and bath towels are supplied. The kitchen is stocked with cutlery and crockery, good quality pots and pans, a refrigerator and a freezer (both Steca 166 litre units) and a three-plate gas cooker with an oven.  The gas is also supplied.  Please, however bring 10 litres of petrol to run the water pump.

Armando, our assistant, will be there to look after our guests.  And to clean up!  The dining area features locally made tables and chairs, and the lounge has comfortable cushion-covered couches where one can relax with a book from the small but growing library.

Also included are camp chairs, shady Brachystegia (Msasa/Miombo woodland trees), bird calls, clean air and no traffic noises or sirens!

Area Attractions

Pomene Lagoon of Mozambique is one of the prettiest destinations on the southern-east coast of Africa, offering many outdoor activities to enjoy, both in the water and on land!

The lagoon is very safe for swimming and is extremely convenient to access. Snorkelling within the lagoon itself is stunning, offering a vibrant variety of colours, shapes and sizes of tropical fish that shelter in the storm-uprooted tree roots.

The intriguing mangrove creeks to the south of the lagoon beckon to be explored, either by kayak or motor boat.

A walk over to the beach gives the contrast of curling waves - perfect for body surfing when the swell is right. But the beaches are perhaps the best of all - wide, uninterrupted white sandy stretches which invite one to stroll on forever whilst enjoying the shells strewn up in the intertidal zone.

The variety of habitats provide boundless opportunities for birding, while dolphins, turtle and, occasionally, dugongs visit the estuary and reefs.

A nearby lodge also offers scuba diving with qualified dive instructors. By prior arrangement they collect us to go exploring the world-class diving reefs off the Pomene shores, widely recognized as the best in Mozambique. Big game fishing can also be organised.
